Background

F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon) is an intense combat experience with rich atmosphere and an engaging story presented entirely in first person. It is one of the highest system demanding games out there and has won the following awards.

  • GameSpy Gamer's Choice 2005

  • GameSpot best of 2005

  • PC Gamer Editor's Choice

Story Background

The story begins as an unidentified paramilitary force infiltrates a multi-billion dollar aerospace compound, taking hostages but issuing no demands. The government responds by sending in special forces, but loses contact as an eerie signal interrupts radio communications. When the interference subsides moments later, the team has been obliterated. Live footage of the massacre shows an inexplicable wave of destruction tearing the soldiers apart before they can even react.

As part of a classified strike team created to deal with threats no one else can handle, your mission is simple: Eliminate the intruders at any cost. Determine the origin of the signal. And contain this crisis before it spirals out of control.

Weapons Guide

  • Rakow HP-14 Pistol: This is a powerful handheld weapon that has moderate efficiency. It has a somewhat long reload time and a slow rate of fire. This weapon is able to be duel weilded, which greatly expands this weapons effectiveness. It has armor penetration and causes your enemy to stop firing because it has'stopping power'.

  • Vollmer VK-12 Combat Shotgun: The shotgun. No FPS is complete without it. This weapon can make quite a punch. It has 12 shots and is perfect for those with fast reflexes and a love for close combat. By powerful I mean this weapon can literaly shear an enemy in half.

  • Sumak RPL Sub-Machinegun: This weapon's high rate of fire and 50 rounds to burn is excellent for those that are, accuracy challenged (spray and prayer's). It doesn't have great armor penetration but it is good for chipping away at an enemy's stats.

  • Rakow G2A2 Assault Rifle: This is your basic all around weapon. Personally it is my favorite. It has a fairly good armor penetration and a high rate of fire. It has less rounds than the Sub-Machinegun but it makes up for it in power. It also has better aim than the SMG. Expect to see this gun in most MP games since it a favorite among many gamers.

  • Baksha ASP Rifle: This is FEAR's version of a sniper rifle. It is excellent for headshots. It fires a three round burst. Normally 1 shot on the head equals a kill, 2 shots on the body equals a kill. This weapon is basically useless in close combat, but as stated earlier its scope is perfect for the sniping areas in single player and MP.

  • Armacham 10mm HV Penetrator (Nail Gun): As the name suggests, this piece of machinery fires metal bolts that can 'nail' an opponent to a wall. It was a slower rate of fire than the G2 but it has more firepower and you can't beat the satisfication in watching an enemy dangle on a stairwell from a nail in his forehead.

  • Armacham Type-7 Particle Weapon (Plasma Gun): This is basically a weapon that sends a high powered bolt at an enemy. It is in essence a sniping weapon, but it can be used in close combat. It liquidates your enemy in one shot. On SP you need more than one shot to beat armored enemies, but this is one fun gun.

  • Obregon MP-50 Repeating Cannon 20mm (Battle Cannon): A shoulder-fired, fully auto repeating cannon. Yeah, it's as badass as it sounds. It does severe damage at point of impact and has moderate splash damage. However, you won't be winning any foot races when lugging this huge cannon around. It's slower, but it is fun to watch enemies being thrown in its wake.

  • Andra MOD-3 MP Multi-Rocket Launcher: If you like seeing things go 'boom' then this is your weapon. It fires three drunken missiles that cause a hell of alot of damage to your opponent. Why use finesse in aim when you can simply obliterate your enemy with one shot.

  • N6A3 Fragmentation Grenade: This is your standard grenade. It is awesome for scaring your enemy out of fiding and can shred body parts across the room (literaly). This weapon sends out a shockwave that can look quite spectacular when veiwed in slowmo.

  • AT-S Proximity Mine: I love this thing. Basically it senses when an enemy is near. You place it on the ground and it'll start glowing. When an enemy walks near it it will shoot up to their face a explode. Lol simply stand back and watch the walls turn red.

  • M77 Remote Bomb: This is one little bundle of joy. You hold up to five of these and have an activator stick. These nades stick to the surface you throw them on, so you can lay traps. Once you hit the trigger all of these grenades blow up at once.

More of the game guide will be coming. I'ts currently under construction. I need to go through the SP for the 7th time and take down notes of everything and take several hundred screenies. Please be patient.

Single Player Guide

This guide is based on my experience on the hardest setting, Extreme Difficulty. If my methods for this game work on that level, then you should be able to use them for the other settings too. Remember, this is only MY way of doing it. There are plenty of other ways to beat this game that probably work just as well.

Ok this is how it will work. I'll provide the chapter name and their subtitles. Pictures displayed are all clickable thumbnails. Thumbnails related to a paragraph will come ABOVE the series of sentences.

Interval 01 - Inception
Point of Origin

You are given an introduction movie sequence. Basically the guy that eats dead people will be your enemy for the rest of the game. In the FEAR Briefing room your given an overview of the situation. Afterwards you'll be plagued by several visions.

You drive to a building in a car. Priority is finding Fettel. Get out of the car and continue down the alley until you see some boards. Either shoot or break down the boards with the right or left mouse button. Continue on until you reach a door. Press 'F' to open it. When you get to a dark room press 'X' to turn on your flashlight.

You'll enter a room with stairs going up. Jankowski sees you and instructs you to find another way around to him. Before you head up the stairs search in the rooms on your right. There will be a health booster sitting on a table. Head up the stairs and go down the hall. Jump over the table with the spacebar. As you head further into the map you will occasionally see zombie like creatures that walk and then disappear in a cloud of ash. Press 'C' to crouch when you get to the door.

Go down the hall and try not to be scared when the door slams shut. After the room you get to shoot your very first padlock. Go up the stairs. Jankowski will clear the door for you. Next he will kick in a door. You'll enter a world of visions. Simply follow the path until you get to the bloody corpse of a man on the chair. Head up the stairs to your right after the conversation. Follow the path on the roof of the building.

You'll come to another door. Open it and enter the room. Go out onto the roof again and go inbetween the two walls. After the speech by Fettal you'll be given orders to head back to the dead man. Walk back the way you came, but wait at the top of the stairs as you enter the building in order to hear a conversation between Jankowski and Jin.

After you get back you'll have another vision.
