The Firearm and Melee Weapon selections are just your starting stuff. You can pick some other stuff up later, but nothing too extreme. You can also ride in vehicles as you find them, but no military vehicles unless we happen to be at a military base.

Uber hotwires a gray Toyota 4Runner and drives toward a particularly tall office building. In a helpful accident, he mows over a lone sniper. Uber quickly grabs his rifle and ammo, jumps back into the SUV, and drives toward a building surrounded with scaffolding. Before he gets there, a mob of twenty zombies slowly lumbers toward him. He quickly drops a lit match on the floor, busts the door open, and jumps out. The 4Runner explodes as it plows its way to the center of the mob.

Meanwhile, Uber climbs to the top of the building, destroys the nearby staircases (following the guidelines set by Max Brooks' Zombie Survival Guide), and sets up the sniper rifle.
